Haleon has recalled two Robitussin cough syrups with honey due to microbial contamination.
Eight lots of Robitussin Honey CF Max Day Adult in 40-ounce and 80-ounce sizes, and Robitussin Honey CF Max Nighttime Adult 80-ounce are affected by the recall, according to a notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Haleon said the affected cough medicines could potentially cause severe or life-threatening adverse events such as fungemia or disseminated fungal infection in immunocompromised individuals. Fungemia is defined as the presence of fungi or yeast in the blood.
In otherwise healthy individuals, who are not immunocompromised, life-threatening infections are unlikely, the company said.
Haleon said that to date, it had not received any reports of adverse health effects related to the recalled products.
The company said it is notifying distributors and customers to return recalled products. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should cease use immediately, Haleon said.
Any consumers who may have experience an adverse reaction after using the recalled products should contact their physician, and report their reaction to to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program.
