Amazon announced the development of a new production facility for Project Kuiper, a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network.
Project Kuiper, launched in 2019, aims to provide affordable broadband internet to underserved customers globally.
The new 172,000-square-foot satellite production facility in Kirkland, Wash., will help ramp up the manufacture of a planned 3,236 satellites for the network.
Project Kuipers first two prototype satellites, Kuipersat-1 and Kuipersat-2, will launch in early 2023 on United Launch Alliances (ULA) Vulcan Centaur rocket.
SpaceXs Starlink satellite internet constellation has already launched more than 3,000 satellites into low Earth orbit.
