A meteor streaked across sky over several states Thursday night, and witnesses shared numerous videos of the fireball on social media. According to the American Meteor Society, which collects reports of sightings, the meteor was seen from at least 12 states at around 7:33 p.m. ET. Witnesses in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ontario, Canada, reported seeing a glowing green fireball with a long tail. A Nest security camera video shared by Twitter user @bstinman in Cleveland, Ohio, shows the glowing fireball flying through the frame and disappearing over the horizon. Its unclear whether the meteor was one of the last of the Leonid meteor shower, which is typically active during the month of November, or an early appearance of the Geminid meteor shower, which peaks in mid-December.
