A meteor streaked across sky over several states Thursday night, and witnesses shared numerous videos of the fireball on social media. According to the American Meteor Society, which collects reports of sightings, the meteor was seen from at least 12 states at around 7:33 p.m. ET. A doorbell camera video shared by Stephen Martin in Wadsworth, Ohio, shows what appears to be an airplane flying through the sky just as the meteor streaks into view behind it. Witnesses in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ontario, Canada, reported seeing a glowing green fireball with a long tail. Its unclear whether the meteor was one of the last of the Leonid meteor shower, which is typically active during the month of November, or an early appearance of the Geminid meteor shower, which peaks in mid-December.
