A glowing fireball streaked across the sky over Scotland and Northern Ireland Wednesday night, and astronomers say it was likely space junk. Hundreds of observers shared videos of the fireball, which appeared around 10 p.m. local time, and reported it to astronomical agencies. A video shared by Twitter user @james_w_89 in Glasgow, Scotland, shows the green fireball shining through the cloud cover. According to the U.K. Meteor Network, the speed and trajectory indicate the likely space debris would have landed in the Atlantic Ocean, south of the Hebrides archipelago in Scotland, if it didnt break up in the atmosphere. Per reports, the space debris could be from a SpaceX Starlink satellite that was due to de-orbit and reenter the atmosphere around the same time. The satellites are designed to disintegrate on reentry.
