NASA’s historic Artemis I moon mission launch has been delayed because engineers were unable to resolve a problem with one of the rocket’s four engines.

On September 2, the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft will have another shot to launch.

A launch this Friday is definitely in play” according to Mike Sarafin, Artemis mission manager, assuming the problem can be fixed while the rocket is still on the launch pad in the next 48 to 72 hours.

Before the launch was canceled, the countdown was unexpectedly put on pause while the launch team developed a strategy to troubleshoot one of the rocket’s four engines.

But attempts to reconfigure the engine were unsuccessful.
